HRF to testify beore U.S Senate
NEW YORK (February 16, 2017) — Human Rights Foundation (HRF) chairman Garry Kasparov will testify today before the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, in a subcommittee hearing titled, “Democracy and Human Rights: The Case for U.S. Leadership.” Kasparov will offer his expert testimony at 2:45 PM. It will be broadcast live on the U.S. Senate website. In his testimony, Kasparov will discuss the worrying rise of authoritarianism globally. He will urge the United States to take an active role in defending human rights at home and abroad. Kasparov will be joined on the panel by Cuban artist and HRF partner Danilo “El Sexto” Maldonado Machado, Saudi Arabian women’s health researcher Dr. Halah Eldoseri, and the presidents of the National Endowment for Democracy, International Republican Institute, and National Democratic Institute. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) will preside over the hearing, which will be hosted by the Senate’s Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women"s Issues. This subcommittee deals with all matters concerning U.S. relations with the countries of the Western Hemisphere, including matters concerning global human rights, civilian security, and democracy.
