At least 19 people died in forest fires in Chile
Chile has reported at least 19 fatalities in simultaneous fires in the Valparaíso region, located 100 kilometers east of Santiago. The fires have destroyed over a million homes in various locations, with President Gabriel Boric declaring an emergency state to mobilize resources for the outbreak.
The region and Viña del Mar, in central Chile, have declared a partial closure to allow evacuations and evacuations during a series of unprecedented fires. The mayor fire in the region is in the Reserva Lago Peñuelas, which has consumed over 7,000 hectares.
The second most significant fire is in La Aguada, a community in La Estrella, O’Higgins, which has destroyed 4.084 hectares. Heatwave alerts have been in effect since this week and for the next in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Brazil, in addition to Chile. The situation is expected to worsen as the fires continue to spread.
